Fun Friday Fun!

On Fridays, students get extra choices for early finishers. When they finish their morning work on Fridays they get to choose from the Friday book shelf. The shelf is full of games, puzzles, play dough, coloring books, LEGOS, and more. A big push with the new Common Core Standards is to push students to have interactive conversations. These choices set students up for discussion. It is so exciting to see first graders play/argue/learn to get along while interacting in the fun constructive activities like the Friday choices!  There are many standards that address this but on in particular is...

Speaking & Listening

Comprehension and Collaboration

1. Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about grade 1 topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.
  1. Follow agreed-upon rules for discussions (e.g., listening to others with care, speaking one at a time about the topics and texts under discussion).
  2. Build on others’ talk in conversations by responding to the comments of others through multiple exchanges.
  3. Ask questions to clear up any confusion about the topics and texts under discussion.

I'm glad to give the students the opportunity to grade in comprehension and collaboration daily but Directly focused on our Fun Fridays!

Thanks to PTO and our Innisbrook sales due to our participation... With $100 we were able to add more games to the Friday shelf. They love playing Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, Connect 4, and Guess Who now! (Pictures to come from camera at school)
