FUN FRIDAY!

We had an awesome Friday!!  Today we finished up our Snowman Books, pretended to be surgeons as we operated on contractions, and rearranged our room to get ready for our Interwrite Board!!! Woohoo!!!!  Here are a few pictures of our VERY busy day!

I think he got a little into the splatter painting idea!  What do you think?

Think they are having fun?
Can you tell my favorite season?

Let me just say... This was not a one day project!  Writing takes a very long time to perfect and get to a publishing point.  The students worked very hard on these books in their writing journals, through rough drafts, and then editing and rewriting.  VERY HARD WORK!  I'm so proud of my little people!
 Contraction Surgery!

Lastly, I plan on only using Math Tubs occassionally, as I feel like the students need more time with manipulatives.  Therefore, I created an area in our room that will be very easy for them to access manipulatives.
New Math area!

Upcoming events...
100th Day of School!

Also, look for an email about receiving the newsletter either off the blog or electronically.  I would really like to cut back on those copies if at all possible!

Have a great weekend!

MLK and Pete!

We enjoyed a fabulous week of Pete the Cat as we got back into the groove of school.  I loved to see how creative the students were with their own versions of Pete.  Pete stepped in lots of things in Room 4!

We also studied Dr. Martin Luther King, jr. and his strong attitude.  Students created their own versions of "I Have a Dream..." while also creating a paper version of themselves.  This was another fun Friday activity!

We also made a chart for Early Finisher Choices.  When students finish their work before others they can spend a few minutes with an early finisher choice.  I have also seen students looking at the chart to spell words!

Lastly, we've been looking at the "Bossy E" or "Super E," who makes vowels say their name.  We've been working with the fun little magical e wand!

This week we've been working on Contractions!  More to come......

Welcome Back!

I cannot believe we are already in the second semester of the year!  Our winter break was fabulous!  It was my first Christmas with my new husband, and we had the best time with friends and family.  We finished up our holiday with a surprise trip to New York City!  We walked basically the entire city, saw The Rockettes and Jersey Boys (LOVED Jersey Boys!), went to the new C Wonder store (Tory Burch's ex-husbands store) in SoHo, and my favorite part of all... we toured the Today Show with one of our good friends who is a Producer for Matt Lauer!  Here we are as the new co-hosts!

Now back to school-

We have had a wonderful week back to school.  We are enjoying the always fun character, Pete the Cat!  The children have just loved his books.  We have been making text to self connections, looking for adjectives to describe Pete, and learning to be a good sport like Pete.  Tomorrow we will make our own version of Pete the Cat and write a little story about what shoes we would want Pete to wear.  I've heard there is a NEW Pete the Cat book coming out in May!  Can't wait!

We are also working with antonyms and winter writing.  I am so pleased with the student's winter writing.

A copy of our newsletter for this week can be found here.

Happy New Year!
