Have you been READING this summer?
In first grade, we work really hard on learning to read and write better. Over the first semester we will work with the sets of words below. You need to know these words super fast, so we will call them our super sight words!
Some ideas to help you get a jump start on school are the following:
- Look for these words in books you have at home. Put a "sticky note" (post-it) on the page if you find the word!
- Have an adult help you make flashcards with paper or index cards. You could put a ring or ribbon around them and practice them OR put them all into a bag or bucket and draw them out to learn the words.
- It's even more fun if you make it into a game we will play called, Oh No! My buddy, Mrs. Wolfe made it up and I LOVE it! We add cards that say "OhNo" into the bucket, too. You try to get as many sight words correct as you can (keeping the cards), BUT if you draw the "OhNo" card you have to put all your cards back into the bucket. Keep playing until you have lots of cards! This game is fun to play with your siblings or an adult.
- Use sidewalk chalk or shaving cream in the bathtub to practice writing your words.
- Try to come up with sentences using as many words as you can!
All of these are just some of the ways I will show you how to learn your words! Don't forget to keep reading!!
Good luck reading and learning over the summer!
